TITLE: Blank CanvasBlank Canvas (Paint #2)

SERIES:  Paint #2

AUTHOR:  Emma Jaye

PUBLISHER: Independent

LENGTH: 310 Pages

BLURB:

Chris Bacon is dead. Long live Chrisander Baccioni?

Unable to walk or talk coherently after a hit and run attack, Chris finds himself on the other side of the world with Jase firmly in babysitting mode. Pity and betrayal, even if it was for ‘his own good’ wasn’t something Chris tolerated from anyone, least of all from an ex-lover who was hanging around only out of a misguided sense of duty.

The barely breathing battered boy was all Kathleen had to wipe away her daughter’s shame and continue the Baccioni dynasty. Despite Chrisander’s unfortunate childhood, her grandson was young enough to mould into a god-fearing family man. Surely only an idiot would reject a life of respect and luxury with a beautiful, intelligent woman by his side, for a grubby little flat and a dirt poor, ex-army sergeant.

REVIEW:

Blank Canvas begins right where book one left off, so there was no guesswork or no time at all wondering what happened. After Chris’s accident, he wakes in the hospital to find that his mysterious grandmother from America has come to claim him.

Although she is rich and will pay for Chris to have all the best treatment as well as security in the States, Jase is skeptical about her motives. She makes it clear up front that having homosexual sex is a sin and that she intends to “help” her grandson. At this point things seem like they could get pretty scary, but Jase has no choice but to let the grandmother take him. However, no matter how little she thinks of Jase, he refuses to leave Chris’s side. It’s only when Jase lets down his guard that things get out of hand.

This book had me on the edge from the beginning. With all that Chris went through in the first book, I couldn’t imagine him being thrown into one of those religious “rehabilitation” places. I was really scared for him, but I was happy how things turned out. I also loved seeing the contrast and the almost clash between two cultures when the couple has to leave England for the States. Though there were some dark parts in this book and some near misses, I was in tears in the end and overjoyed with how perfect things wrapped up. This series was a fantastic adventure and I loved every moment. I recommend this book to anyone who loves m/m romance with dark themes.

RATING: I loved it!

AUTHOR:  R. Phoenix

LENGTH: 146 Pages

BLURB:

Only one thing can keep Ashton safe from the supernatural predators who made the world into their depraved, twisted playground after the Takeover–but it’s the one thing that would steal the last remnants of his freedom. At every turn, society confronts Reese and Ashton with the way humans are treated as mere playthings to be used and discarded. When they realize their own desires and pride have no place in the status quo, Ashton and his werewolf lover understand they’ll have to engage in the deadly games played by those in charge if they want to make a difference.

But Reese isn’t a diplomat, and Ash is only human. Together, they must decide if they’re willing to work with the devil they know in what might change everything or rely on their consciences in a world that has no place for kindness or honor… and if they’re ready to sacrifice everything along the way.

###

In a world ruled by supernatural beings whose moral compasses are all but broken, humans struggle to survive in the face of despair, cruelty, and hate. Through it all, there’s hope for more — hope, mercy, and love. Can the balance ever be tipped in their favor?

REVIEW:

Temper was full of action and the type of absolute craziness that I really love. Though I enjoyed revisiting Ash and Reece, I was a bit dismayed by the extremely brutal way the book begins with Ash paying the price for his ignorance/independence. However, I think the pain he suffers was necessary way for him to wake up and realize the danger of their situation. Throughout the book there are appearances of the other characters from the previous books in the series. I really liked this since the other books read like stand-alones and this book seemed to be where their worlds collided. There were also some new and extremely intriguing characters as well as a deeper look into Elias’s motives and history. I really look forward to seeing where Elias goes with his plotting, and what kind of messed up torture schemes he has stashed away for later.

Despite all the violence and humiliation the characters have to endure, I really loved that Ash and Reece achieve a victory in the end.  Overall, the book was a win for me, and I’m very curious to know what happens next in this series. I recommend this series to anyone who likes MM Dark Erotica, Dark Fantasy, and MM Romance.

(New Edited Version)

(A collection of brand new and previously published Kol Anderson taboo shorts. Newly edited and never before seen stories.)

Don’t be Afraid of the Dark

Destiny is a strange thing. It can be fickle at times, and it can make you miss out on incredible connections that would set you on the journey of your lifetime. But the thing is, you’ll never know what you missed out on.

Sometimes Destiny takes pity on you and lets you meet the person you are supposed to, at just the right time. When Jensen first saw Liam, he lost his heart. Even if it took him a while to realize that. It’s okay, though. He had to grow and learn some more before he was the man Liam needed to save him from a life he was trapped in.

Supernatural forces collide to give Jensen the strength he needs to evolve into the man Liam waited his whole life for, and when their souls finally slam into each other, neither will be the same again.

Slave

It’s the worst feeling in the world, seeing him with someone else. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do, no limits I won’t go to get him back. But he won’t give me a chance. He won’t so much as look at me because he thinks I don’t belong to him anymore.
But that’s the whole thing.
I don’t belong anywhere.
Doesn’t matter where I go or who I am with I am always alone. There is something wrong with me, there has to be because no one else seems quite as miserable at being without a master.
But don’t we all owe our freedom to something?
People are slaves, aren’t they? To their jobs, to their partners, to their children, even to their lifestyles?
We all have those little kinks that we don’t tell anyone about, because we think we’re going to be judged for them, and because we’re slaves to society’s rules.
In a world where slavery is the norm I’m a slave to my needs.
To him.
And I need to get him back.

WARNINGS: HARDCORE BDSM, DUB-CON, NON-CON

Sin

Samuel “Sin” Taylor doesn’t know the difference between sex and intimacy, but maybe that’s not his fault. He grew up in a world where it was easier to get physical pleasure than to find love. But as a prostitute working the streets, Sin thinks he’s finally found his true calling. After all sex is the one thing he’s good at, right? But when Isaac enters his life through mere coincidence, Sin finds it a relief to be someone other than Sin.

How long can he keep up the charade?

WARNINGS: DUB-CON, NON-CON, ABUSE, VIOLENCE, DRUG USE

Fugue

Ever felt like the world thinks you’re crazy? Welcome to my world. I tried normal, but eventually the truth catches up to you. Thank God for Evan, he believes me. But no man is a saint, and eventually the stories of aliens and tentacles and kidnappings just become too much for anyone to believe anymore.

But I know what happened. I know what they did to me. The voices are calling me back now. They’re calling me to be with her, my daughter. And I can’t resist it anymore.

REVIEW:

Kol starts out gently, his voice like a lover’s tempting whisper in the dark. His poetry sets the stage for what will be four very different stories within an extremely well-written anthology, and the tone carries on throughout. There’s desperation and hope, desolation and solace; there’s pain and relief, peace and terror. It all goes on through these pages. There are similarities in the four stories, but overall, they couldn’t be more different.

There’s an almost dreamlike quality to these stories, something that lures you in and refuses to let you go until the end. I found myself highlighting line after line of beautiful words that appealed to me and I wanted to remember.

In Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, we get a taste of the paranormal set against the backdrop of a world that seems grim for the characters involved. I want to know more about the characters and the world; my only complaint is that I’m not a huge fan of insta-love angles. But this line: “I don’t need you to feel sorry for me, that’s not what I want. I want you to love me” more than made up for it.

Slave follows the path of a broken-hearted sub whose master turned his back on him, and he tries to find solace anywhere and everywhere he can. There’s a surreal feeling to the entire peace, as though I’m in a dream that I can’t fully awake from. I’m not sure what I like better — the opening poem or the story itself. I loved Jesse, and everything he did felt real throughout the entire piece.

And then there was Sin. Sin isn’t for the faint of heart — and while I don’t consider myself particularly faint of heart, I think mine broke all the same. Those with issues involving incest and rape should steer clear of this one completely. There’s just enough hope to keep my heart from being completely crushed, but I noted at this point that the anthology is steadily darkening.

Finally, there’s Fugue. Fugue isn’t my type of story, but it’s an interesting one all the same. It follows a young man who believes he’s been tortured by aliens and his doctor, who’s desperate to help someone he feels has been failed by others. There are points where you can’t be sure if it’s a sci-fi short or a short on the effects of mental illness, but either way, the effect is profound.

Overall, the taboos mentioned in the tags and above are very much a present part of the stories, but they aren’t dwelled upon for too long. There’s just enough detail to let you know what’s going on, and then Anderson continues with the story: because this is all about the story, not the taboos.

Beautiful writing.

RATING: I loved it! (Even if it is going to haunt me for a while)

REVIEW:

This book was amazingly and extremely vicious. I loved the last book, but this is definitely my favorite in the series so far. I don’t really know how to review it without giving away too much since the book starts out with a surprise. So, I’ll just say that things get pretty dark for some of the characters in previous books. I imagined it was dark for them already, but their situation just gets worse before it gets better. Elias takes his sadism to an entirely new level in this installment, making an already tricky social situation impossible. I probably couldn’t get more cryptic with this review, but just expect a lot of mind fucks, non-con, and angst. Really, Elias is such an ass, I’m just waiting for him to get a taste of his own medicine. I recommend this book to anyone who likes m/m dark erotica.

Note: This isn’t a standalone. It must be read in order or nothing will make sense.

About the Author

R. Phoenix has an unhealthy fascination with contrasts: light and dark, heroes and villains, order and chaos. She believes that love can corrupt and power can redeem. Her muse is a sadomasochistic slave driver who thinks it’s terribly amusing to give her the best ideas when she just got comfortable and warm in bed, and she passes on that torture to her readers.

If she had it her way, she would describe the books in her “Ripples in the Status Quo” world as: “Supernatural creatures take over the world and turn humans into pets and food. There’s some sex between guys. And… um… effed up things happen.” It’s probably a good thing she has people around her to remind her that she actually wants people to read her books. (They should really be more diligent, especially when they know she’s writing her author bio.)

She’s an author, stay-at-home mother, housewife, second time college student, and duck herder extraordinaire. She’s learning how to cook without burning the house down, her garden is somehow neither drowning nor drying up, and one day she might remember what that mythical thing called “free time” is. She’s starting to wonder who thought it was a good idea to write bios in third person.

She also tries entirely too hard to be funny, and she mercilessly inflicts her terrible sense of humor upon anyone who speaks to her. Really, it’s not you. It’s her. All the same, she’d love it if you’d say hello, because it makes her day to hear that someone read something she wrote. If they enjoyed it, there’s usually an awkward happy dance and embarrassing sounds of joy to accompany it (no, not that kind of sound, you perv). Review: Antidote (Don’t… #2) by Jack L. Pyke #DarkErotica #MM

TITLE: Antidote Antidote (Don't..., #2)

SERIES: Don’t… #2

AUTHOR: Jack L. Pyke

PUBLISHER: Fantastic Fiction Publishing

LENGTH: 407 Pages

BLURB:

Video footage of Jack Harrison sleeping with Cutter, a man who has mutilated teenagers, should have stayed dead and buried with the man who had filmed it. Yet when footage to Jack’s past starts appearing on Internet porn sites, Jack’s whole world is again turned on its head. At first the porn links are done to unsettle, to disrupt Jack’s fire and ice world: all the sexed-up adrenaline of being caught between the pleasure to Gray Raoul’s BDSM kink, and the gentleness of Jan Richards’ vanilla touch. But when the content of the porn sites force even Gray to turn his back on Jack, leaving Jack isolated and away from the full protection of the Master’s Circle, Jack is left at the mercy of a group of men who are out to alter Jack’s whole perception on his BDSM lifestyle.

As brutally as possible, Jack’s sex life is now live webcam feed for a whole new audience.

REVIEW:

My god! I need more stars for this one. Five stars are not even close to being enough! Antidote is the third book I’ve read by the author and by far my favorite. The book begins with a glimpse of the three men’s happy world. Jack has his “okay” to return to being a master’s sub and they are all crazy about each other. However, before Jack can get back into it, he receives a disturbing video from his past. Then everything goes downhill when Jack and Jan wake up to find themselves abducted and in a nightmare. Even when it appears the nightmare is over, it’s not because the damage they’ve inflicted runs too deep.

I fell in love with this book from the beginning. There is so much angst and the situations are so intense. As they try to piece their lives back together, the pain they all endure over Jack’s trauma is just heartbreaking. Though Jack endures most of the torture, I really felt sorry for Jan and what he goes through.  I’m so glad I continued with this series. I wasn’t very attached to the first book, but now that I’ve read book 2, I can’t wait to read more. I highly recommend Antidote to anyone who loves m/m dark erotica with lots of angst.

Review: Soaring Past Death (Love’s Landscapes) by Morticia Knight #DarkErotica #MM

TITLE: Soaring Past DeathSoaring Past Death

SERIES:  Love’s Landscapes

AUTHOR:  Morticia Knight

PUBLISHER: Goodreads MM Romance Group

LENGTH: 66 Pages

BLURB:

Dear Author,
After years of doing this I never thought anything could surprise me, but I was wrong. Of all the trainees to be assigned, somehow Viper 44 was the last one I expected to see in the program.

Still so young, but then that’s what the mission requires.

Photo Description:
Black and white pic of a slightly built young man with his head bowed, on one knee, arms wrapped around his other knee. He’s chained to the ceiling by a collar around his neck. In the foreground, there is the bottom half of a man facing him, holding a flogger.

This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group’s “Love’s Landscapes” event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

This story may contain sexually explicit content and is intended for adult readers. It may contain content that is disagreeable or distressing to some readers. The M/M Romance Group strongly recommends that each reader review the General Information section before each story for story tags as well as for content warnings.

REVIEW:

The story begins when 13 learns he has to put his sub, Viper 44, through specialized training that entails torture and sexual abuse. Though 13 fears his command has learned about his secret relationship with 44, he goes through with the punishment. He hates having to hurt 44, but he follow his command’s orders, doing his best to conceal the fact that he and 44 are lovers. Once they make it through their ordeal, they’re faced with danger neither had expected.

Such a hot short story. I was a bit weirded out by the names being numbers considering I just finished reading another sci-fi book with numbers for names. However, I got over it quickly and became immersed in the story. Though most of the torture between 13 and 44 wasn’t graphic, things did get a bit tense and harsh in the end. I enjoyed the ending and the tenderness of their relationship after everything was said and done. I recommend this free read to anyone who likes m/m dark erotica.

After he picks up a young ex-con named Jaye Larson for stealing food, Dixon is seduced by the possibility of helping someone truly in need. But temptation entangles them as the malicious ghosts of Jaye’s past returns to haunt their every step. Jaye’s ghosts are bad enough, but the demon from Dixon’s past is real enough to put both of their lives in danger. (M/M)

REVIEW:

Absolutely beautiful! Arctic Absolution begins when the Alaskan cop, Dixon, responds to a robbery at a convenience store. However, when he arrives on the scene, he finds the slim, beautiful Jaye who looks like a teen. Jaye is an x-con with a gang tattoo on his face. Though he looks like trouble, Dixon is drawn to him and also wants to help him. As their lives become entwined, Jaye learns about Dixon’s abusive x-boyfriend, Marcus, and Dixon’s fear of Marcus alights something in Jaye. He can’t stand that someone hurt Dixon in the same way Jaye had been hurt.

This book was unbelievably hot and just so damn beautiful! The first time Jaye and Dixon were together was breathtaking and heartbreaking all at once. Having read Caged Jay prior to reading this book, I could really sympathize with Jaye and all that he’d gone through in prison. It broke my heart that he escaped that hell just to freeze and starve all alone in his cabin, where he was still being haunted by his ghosts. That Dixon came into his life and extended a hand to help him was just perfect and made me love Dixon right away. After reading Caged Jay and seeing how badly they broke Jaye in prison, I really enjoyed how Jaye is built up in this book. It was also perfect that Jaye found someone who is just as broken as him. Jaye is so protective of Dixon even though Dixon is older and a cop. I love everything about this series. I look forward to reading the next book. I recommend Arctic Absolution to anyone who loves m/m romance with violence and dark themes.

Bound Gods: Book 3 Betrayed

The stakes are rising.

As the god-son closes in leaving more bodies in its wake, treason and betrayal against the Association is unveiled. An inquiry for the Goddesses has been called, threatening everything Leo holds dear.

And the Chimera is not about to let go without a fight.

Despite the dangers lurking in the shadows, Leo wants his doxie Kaleb to think of only one thing. Him. His training. His purpose. And embrace the reality of what he is and not be ashamed of his attraction to Aaron, the doxie tossed aside by Sol.

Attraction is one thing. Bringing the boy to their bed is something else entirely. Kaleb can’t possibly want anyone but Leo. A lie Kaleb will pay dearly for. Penance Leo will be more than happy to deliver.

But penance for a lie will pale in comparison to what Kaleb must do to keep Sol from taking Aaron away, and invoking the Chimera into a lifetime in chains.

REVIEW:

Extraordinary dark erotica! The plot thickens with book 3 which begins with Kaleb’s realization that he desires the discarded doxie, Aaron. Though there is a lot of sex in this book, it’s all very hot, and I never once tired of it. In addition to Kaleb’s training, Leo learns more about the plot which brought Kaleb into being, and Leo throws the other gods for a loop by making an unexpected doxie request.

This was an exciting and erotic addition to the Bound Gods series. Kaleb is taken to new heights and his limits stretched even further, while Leo continues his plan of weaponizing Kaleb’s ambrosia so no god but Leo can touch him. I enjoyed learning more about the god’s plotting, and revelations about the mysterious monster targeting doxies is starting to give me ideas about where things might be going. Though I felt bad for what Kaleb had to endure, I enjoyed the exciting way that this book ended. I look forward to reading the next installment in this series.

Review: Embraced (Chained in Darkness #1) by Nicholas Bella #MM #DarkErotica #EARTG

TITLE: EmbracedEmbraced (Chained in Darkness, #1)

SERIES:  Chained in Darkness #1

AUTHOR:  Nicholas Bella

PUBLISHER: Self Published

LENGTH: 45 Pages

BLURB:

I’ve been betrayed by someone I trusted. Because of him, I was captured by my loathed enemy: The vampires. Right now, the sun is still high in the sky, but I know when it sets, I’m as good as dead. They can’t wait to get their fangs into me. I guess some would say I have it coming. I did raise a lot of hell with my Resistance crew, and I was planning on raising a hell of a lot more at dawn before I was sold out by Jonah. The vampires, werewolves and dragons, have been trying to track me down for months and I’d always been two steps ahead of them.
*Laughs* I guess my number is up. I just hope they make it quick. You see, the vampires in my reality aren’t the romantic lot you read about in books. They don’t sparkle or hang out at high schools with their teenage girlfriends. Hell no, vampires are brutal, calculating, sadistic and bloodthirsty. As a matter of fact, all of the monsters are! That’s how they were able to take over the world so easily and change an entire civilization to suit their needs. Whatever happens, I know it’s not going to be pretty, so I’m preparing myself for the worst. May God help me.

Warning: This novelette series contains hardcore sexual situations between men, not meant for sensitive eyes. I’m talking crude, lewd and full of attitude. This series will most likely either offend you or get ya revved up. This series isn’t going to be pulling any punches whatsoever, so you’ve been warned. Mature Adult Content meant for readers looking for something dark, taboo, sexy, and unapologetic in their paranormal erotica. This is NOT a romance. This novelette is approximately 13300 words.

REVIEW:

The main character, Noel, is taken prisoner by a vampire named Theoden. Though Noel is straight and somewhat homophobic, Theoden turns him into a vampire, making him come and crave a male’s touch in the process. Noel is still put off by the idea of having sex with men, but his vampire captor lets him know, in somewhat violent terms, that Noel will be his play thing whether he likes it or not.

This was a small glimpse into Noel and Theoden’s world of vampires and other shifters. Though nothing much has happened so far, the author sets the stage for what seems like a lot of hurt and humiliation for Noel. I want to sympathize for Noel and his situation, but so far I am not too fond of him due to his homophobic statements and lack of emotion after the death of his friend. He is a fighter, which should be sexy, but at this point neither character seems particularly appealing to me. This might be because Noel hasn’t displayed any attraction toward Theoden. If anything, Theoden may be displaying lust toward Noel, but it mostly feels like cruelty. Since this book is just one episode, I imagine there will be some kind of attraction that builds between them in episodes to come. Overall, this was a dark and twisted tale, and I am curious to see what happens next in this series.
