Business school is not for Daniel. Not after making the cover of Teen Model. The only problem is that his parents don’t agree, and Daniel skips school to set his plans for fortune and fame in motion. Meeting the award-winning photographer Heimli will change his life, but not in the ways the nineteen-year-old young man expects.

At the age of four hundred thirty-six, Seldon has fed on more beautiful men than he can remember. Living in seclusion from the human world, humans are brought to the Incubi and Succubi as slaves to feed on. Amongst these slaves are the rare Untouchables. When Seldon is entrusted with the safekeeping of one, he has his work cut out for him—especially since this Untouchable gets on his nerves. And under his skin.

REVIEW:

First of all, I just have to say that I am quite fond of incubus story-lines, so this book started out on the right track for me. The story begins when the young model, Daniel, decides he’s going to go get discovered. He’s fed up with his parents talking about him going to college since he’s sure his looks can get him everything including fame. However, instead of landing a modeling job, Daniel is captured by a group of incubi. He quickly discovers that he is considered an untouchable, which means he doesn’t get worked over like some of the other less fortunate young captives. Even so, the fear of what could happen to him almost puts him over the edge.

Though this is the first book I’ve read from Meraki P. Lyhne, I had the pleasure of meeting the author this summer in Berlin, so I had a good idea about what to expect. All of the wonderful dark themes that I love so much were present in this book as well as a good healthy dose m/m/m erotica. I think the thing I loved the most was the sexual denial. Daniel, is deliberately excluded from all the incubus feeding going on in front of him. He considers himself straight, but after a while, he can’t deny being turned on by everything his captor does with other men. I wasn’t sure how things would play out for Daniel, so I was a bit shocked by the twist in the end. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

RATING: I loved it!

TITLE: TemperTemper: A Ripples in the Status Quo Story: Season One (Episode Five)

SERIES:   Ripples in the Status Quo #5

AUTHOR:  R. Phoenix

PUBLISHER: Self Published

LENGTH: 146 Pages

BLURB:

Only one thing can keep Ashton safe from the supernatural predators who made the world into their depraved, twisted playground after the Takeover–but it’s the one thing that would steal the last remnants of his freedom. At every turn, society confronts Reese and Ashton with the way humans are treated as mere playthings to be used and discarded. When they realize their own desires and pride have no place in the status quo, Ashton and his werewolf lover understand they’ll have to engage in the deadly games played by those in charge if they want to make a difference.

But Reese isn’t a diplomat, and Ash is only human. Together, they must decide if they’re willing to work with the devil they know in what might change everything or rely on their consciences in a world that has no place for kindness or honor… and if they’re ready to sacrifice everything along the way.

###

In a world ruled by supernatural beings whose moral compasses are all but broken, humans struggle to survive in the face of despair, cruelty, and hate. Through it all, there’s hope for more — hope, mercy, and love. Can the balance ever be tipped in their favor?

‘Bought,’ ‘Ravel,’ and ‘Recoil’ feature different characters whose lives begin to come together in ‘Owned’ and ‘Temper.’

1. Bought – Jace & Elias.
2. Ravel – Ashton & Reese.

4. Owned – Khaz & Noah, Jace & Elias.
5. Temper – Ashton & Reese, Jace & Elias.
6. Refraction – Khaz & Noah, Ashton & Reese (Jace & Elias)

*Please note that the RISQ world has little place for humanity, and as a result, content in these works may contain graphic scenes of depravity, cruelty, and violence — sexual or otherwise — that could be offensive and potentially triggering to some readers.*

REVIEW:

Temper was full of action and the type of absolute craziness that I really love. Though I enjoyed revisiting Ash and Reece, I was a bit dismayed by the extremely brutal way the book begins with Ash paying the price for his ignorance/independence. However, I think the pain he suffers was necessary way for him to wake up and realize the danger of their situation. Throughout the book there are appearances of the other characters from the previous books in the series. I really liked this since the other books read like stand-alones and this book seemed to be where their worlds collided. There were also some new and extremely intriguing characters as well as a deeper look into Elias’s motives and history. I really look forward to seeing where Elias goes with his plotting, and what kind of messed up torture schemes he has stashed away for later.

Despite all the violence and humiliation the characters have to endure, I really loved that Ash and Reece achieve a victory in the end.  Overall, the book was a win for me, and I’m very curious to know what happens next in this series. I recommend this series to anyone who likes MM Dark Erotica, Dark Fantasy, and MM Romance.

New Release Review: Wes’ Denial by Joseph Lance Tonlet #MM #DarkErotica @JosephLTonlet

TITLE: Wes’ DenialWes' Denial (Tease and Denial, #2)

SERIES:  Tease and Denial #2

AUTHOR:  Joseph Lance Tonlet

PUBLISHER: Self Published

LENGTH: 398 Pages

BLURB:

Wes has spent his life looking for that one special guy who will understand and love him—all of him. From his tender vanilla side, to his darker debauched side.

Throughout high school, his successful career in the Marines, and as a BDSM Dom, he’s remained confident his partner is out there waiting to be found.

However, several events shake his normally unflappable self–assurance.

And, even after he finds Grif, will his past catch up with him and possibly drive his soul mate away?

Goodreads Link

REVIEW:

Hot, haunting, and heartbreaking. Wes’ Denial starts out with Grif and Wes on the rocks, but Wes refuses to give in because he knows Grif is worth fighting for. Then, through a series of flash backs we get a glimpse into Wes’ troubled introduction into the world of BDSM. He first comes to understand some of his dark desires as a teen and then while in Marine Corp boot camp. Though he doesn’t judge himself for it at first, he fears what is inside him and what he’s capable of doing.

Some of these scenes were a bit difficult to read. Though I loved Wes in Grif’s Toy, I did sense a glimpse of something dark and scary in him. There was one point that I almost wondered if Grif was in the hands of a monster. As it turns out, Wes is not so scary, but he definitely has some dark and painful experiences. Seeing this side of Wes made me wonder how the heck he could be truly intimate with Grif while hiding such secrets. At the same time, I was drawn to the erotic scenes in this book. Aside from the steaming hot scenes with Wes and Grif in chocolate, I was fascinated by some of Wes’ past hook ups. For example: Wes’ straight friend in high school who fantasized about a woman making him submit to men was just awesome. Plus, there was also a scene with Wes’ dom trainer, Thomas, that was so hot that it kept playing over and over in my mind. Then, by the end of the book, I was in tears. It was quit unexpected, but I couldn’t ask for a more perfect ending. Overall; amazing, spectacular, and I want more! I recommend this book to anyone who loves M/M dark erotica and M/M romance.

Review: Rent Me (Rent Me #1) by Brina Brady #MM #BDSM @BrinaBrady

REVIEWED BY LARK

TITLE: Rent MeRent Me

SERIES:  Rent Me #1

AUTHOR:  Brina Brady

PUBLISHER: Self-Published

LENGTH: 436 pages

BLURB: Russian mobster spanks his rent boy. Ouch!

Rent Boy Brennen wants to belong to his lover Dmitri Dubrovsky. The Russian mobster controls every inch of his life in and out of bed. Brennen works for Dmitri’s escort service. His only desire is to please his lover. When Dmitri marries Nika, his lover moves him out of their home to an apartment in Beverly Hills and tells him nothing has changed.

What is Brennen going to do now?

Brennen does not understand his lover’s Russian culture not allowing homosexuality. Two different cultures and age difference clash.

Warning:

This is a Gay adult consensual story focused on themes of corporal discipline punishment and explicit sex with light elements of BDSM between adult men over the age of eighteen.

REVIEW: Rent Me was one of those books where I found myself getting into the characters as much as the plot — and sometimes, I wanted to bang their heads together. I absolutely love flawed characters; it’s a common theme in all of the books I adore. Brennen is a bit of a brat, and Dmitri is a bit oblivious, and Nika… Ah, I wanted to send her packing right back to Russia. The character I loved the most was Mischa, Dmitri’s brother; ever dutiful, he goes to extremes to make sure that he does right by Dmitri, but he’s good at what he does.

This book definitely isn’t for people who expect everything to be perfect; this relationship is anything but. However, that’s the way life is, and that’s the way things need to be in order for there to be growth. The author’s style may not be for everyone, but I for one enjoyed the read and can’t wait to pick up the next one.

RATING: I really liked it.

BLURB: Florist. Psychic. Addict.

Laurence Riley coasts by on good looks and natural charm, but underneath lies a dark chasm that neither heroin nor lovers can fill. Sobriety is a pipe dream which his stalker ex-boyfriend is pushing him away from. Luckily, Laurence has powers most can only dream of. If only he could control them.

Aristocrat. Psychic. Survivor.

Quentin d’Arcy is the product of centuries of wealth, privilege, and breeding, and is on the run from all three. A chance encounter with an arresting young florist with a winning smile could make him stop. Laurence is kind, warm, and oddly intriguing but Quentin’s wild telekinesis and his fear of sex make dating a dangerous game.

When opposites attract, they collide.

Desperate to fix his rotting life, Laurence prays for aid and accidentally summons a fertility god who prefers to be called Jack. Jack is willing to help out for a price, and it’s one Laurence just can’t pay: he must keep Jack fed with regular offerings of sex, and the florist has fallen for the one man in San Diego who doesn’t want any.

If they’re to survive Jack’s wrath, Laurence and Quentin must master their blossoming feelings and gifts, but even then the cost of Laurence’s mistake could well overwhelm them both. How exactly are mere mortals supposed to defeat a god?

Jack of Thorns is the first book in the Inheritance series and contains mature themes and events which may be distressing to some readers. It has a low heat rating and an HFN ending.

REVIEW:

I went into this book with high expectations — and they were met every step of the way. Faulkner writes with a deft hand, with strong characterizations that are consistent throughout the entire book. She drops hints for what I assume will be books to come (at least, they’d better be), and they promise one hell of a series without making me feel starved for plot in the first book. From what I see of the first book, she’ll deliver in the other books as much as she has in this one. This is what I want to see in a series.

There are hints of what might become a BDSM relationship in the future, though they (sadly) aren’t realized in book one. Still, there’s enough to keep my interest and to wonder what might come if Laurence (an addict) and Quentin (a wealthy but somewhat sheltered aristocrat) ever end up in bed together. Because all the drama around what happens when two psychics’ lives collide with each other and a god isn’t enough, I apparently have to be thinking of what they’d do in bed. Laurence certainly wonders, so I won’t feel bad for that!

I know this isn’t a normal pick for the Dark Arts blog, but despite my love of all things dark, there was plenty to keep my interest. A touch of the paranormal, a touch of romance, a touch of what might come of a Dom/sub relationship (please)… and it’s all around a fantastic book. I was sad when I ran out of pages before I was ready!

RATING: I’m crazy about it!

Destiny is a strange thing. It can be fickle at times, and it can make you miss out on incredible connections that would set you on the journey of your lifetime. But the thing is, you’ll never know what you missed out on.

Sometimes Destiny takes pity on you and lets you meet the person you are supposed to, at just the right time. When Jensen first saw Liam, he lost his heart. Even if it took him a while to realize that. It’s okay, though. He had to grow and learn some more before he was the man Liam needed to save him from a life he was trapped in.

Slave

It’s the worst feeling in the world, seeing him with someone else. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do, no limits I won’t go to get him back. But he won’t give me a chance. He won’t so much as look at me because he thinks I don’t belong to him anymore.
But that’s the whole thing.
I don’t belong anywhere.
Doesn’t matter where I go or who I am with I am always alone. There is something wrong with me, there has to be because no one else seems quite as miserable at being without a master.
But don’t we all owe our freedom to something?
People are slaves, aren’t they? To their jobs, to their partners, to their children, even to their lifestyles?
We all have those little kinks that we don’t tell anyone about, because we think we’re going to be judged for them, and because we’re slaves to society’s rules.
In a world where slavery is the norm I’m a slave to my needs.
To him.
And I need to get him back.

WARNINGS: HARDCORE BDSM, DUB-CON, NON-CON

Sin

Samuel “Sin” Taylor doesn’t know the difference between sex and intimacy, but maybe that’s not his fault. He grew up in a world where it was easier to get physical pleasure than to find love. But as a prostitute working the streets, Sin thinks he’s finally found his true calling. After all sex is the one thing he’s good at, right? But when Isaac enters his life through mere coincidence, Sin finds it a relief to be someone other than Sin.

How long can he keep up the charade?

WARNINGS: DUB-CON, NON-CON, ABUSE, VIOLENCE, DRUG USE

Fugue

Ever felt like the world thinks you’re crazy? Welcome to my world. I tried normal, but eventually the truth catches up to you. Thank God for Evan, he believes me. But no man is a saint, and eventually the stories of aliens and tentacles and kidnappings just become too much for anyone to believe anymore.

But I know what happened. I know what they did to me. The voices are calling me back now. They’re calling me to be with her, my daughter. And I can’t resist it anymore.

REVIEW:

Kol starts out gently, his voice like a lover’s tempting whisper in the dark. His poetry sets the stage for what will be four very different stories within an extremely well-written anthology, and the tone carries on throughout. There’s desperation and hope, desolation and solace; there’s pain and relief, peace and terror. It all goes on through these pages. There are similarities in the four stories, but overall, they couldn’t be more different.

There’s an almost dreamlike quality to these stories, something that lures you in and refuses to let you go until the end. I found myself highlighting line after line of beautiful words that appealed to me and I wanted to remember.

In Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, we get a taste of the paranormal set against the backdrop of a world that seems grim for the characters involved. I want to know more about the characters and the world; my only complaint is that I’m not a huge fan of insta-love angles. But this line: “I don’t need you to feel sorry for me, that’s not what I want. I want you to love me” more than made up for it.

Slave follows the path of a broken-hearted sub whose master turned his back on him, and he tries to find solace anywhere and everywhere he can. There’s a surreal feeling to the entire peace, as though I’m in a dream that I can’t fully awake from. I’m not sure what I like better — the opening poem or the story itself. I loved Jesse, and everything he did felt real throughout the entire piece.

And then there was Sin. Sin isn’t for the faint of heart — and while I don’t consider myself particularly faint of heart, I think mine broke all the same. Those with issues involving incest and rape should steer clear of this one completely. There’s just enough hope to keep my heart from being completely crushed, but I noted at this point that the anthology is steadily darkening.

Finally, there’s Fugue. Fugue isn’t my type of story, but it’s an interesting one all the same. It follows a young man who believes he’s been tortured by aliens and his doctor, who’s desperate to help someone he feels has been failed by others. There are points where you can’t be sure if it’s a sci-fi short or a short on the effects of mental illness, but either way, the effect is profound.

Overall, the taboos mentioned in the tags and above are very much a present part of the stories, but they aren’t dwelled upon for too long. There’s just enough detail to let you know what’s going on, and then Anderson continues with the story: because this is all about the story, not the taboos.

Beautiful writing.

5 Star Review: The Billionaire’s Puppy – The Complete Series by D.J. Heart #DarkErotica #MM

REVIEWED BY LARK

TITLE: The Billionaire’s Puppy The Billionaire's Puppy - The Complete Collection

The Complete Collection

AUTHOR: D.J. Heart

PUBLISHER: Self Published

LENGTH: 528 Pages

BLURB:

This collection contains all eighteen installments of the Billionaire’s Puppy series – a dark erotic fantasy featuring extreme bdsm, puppy play, domination, and a handsome billionaire whose moral compass has completely malfunctioned…

Rex is tired of gold diggers and boyfriends who refuse to get kinky with him. He wants someone he can come home to and use however he wants, without all the drama of a relationship. Without having to worry that they’ll say no…

(This 100,000 word erotic series features bondage, puppy play, leather, boot fetish, muscle worship, rough sex and a whole lot more!)

Goodreads Link

REVIEW:

Merciless and unapologetic, D.J. Heart leads us through the story of Rex, a billionaire who signs a desperate young man up for a year of service doing anything–and I do mean anything–he wants. Rex decides he wants a puppy, and his Chief of Security is more than happy to train Cody to the task of pleasing his master. Max is sadistic, something his employer enjoys more than a little, and he subjects Cody to more and more extreme forms of puppy play as the collection continues.

The pace continues to build with the introduction of Brick, the perpetually horny but flawlessly obedient stud puppy, who makes Cody into his bitch. At this point, we’re introduced to elements of non-consensual service, something that at first worries Rex but eventually turns him on. The kinks are the real deal: puppy play, obviously; dubious consent, non-consent, BDSM, bondage, piss, chastity, and drugging at this point.

Every time Rex starts to get a little restless–and even sometimes before–Max brings in another dynamic for him to play with. This includes two wild pups, Spike and Diablo, who are mostly feral and not well-trained at all. Rex decides to take things a step further, much to Max’s delight; when indulging Cody’s interest in worshiping a sweaty man, he discovers an interest in breath play.

This goes too far for Cody, who so far has been enjoying the kinks to at least some degree. Even his new restrictive rubber suit doesn’t bother him as much as this. I was relieved, admittedly, when both Rex (and Heart) backed off; we got a breather in the next chapter, so to speak, as Cody recovers and Rex considers his future with the same glimmers of humanity we’ve seen of him throughout the book. The rest of the book indulges in pony play and to my disturbed mind, left me feeling like it lightened up a good bit. (If, you know, NC pony play is considered light.)

In the end, this ended almost as–dare I say it?–at the very least a “happily for now” feeling. I think Heart could do more with these characters if he chose to, and I liked the open nature of the end.

Tl;dr version: Light on the plot, heavy on the tropes, hot as fuck. If you’re into dub- and non-con and puppy play, this is a must-read.

The Family pays for blood in blood.

Domenico Acerbi grew up in the shade of Sicilian lemon trees ready to give his life for the Family. Ready to follow orders and exceed expectations. A proud man of honor.
When Seth, the younger son of the Don is kidnapped, it’s Domenico who is sent to get him back. The man he finds though, is not the boy he knew all those years ago. Lazy, annoying, spoiled, and as hot as a Sicilian summer.

Seth Villani wants nothing to do with the mafia. Unfortunately, he doesn’t get a say when the Family pulls him right back into its fold after his mother’s death. Thrown into a den of serpents otherwise known as the Villani Family, Seth has to find a way to navigate in the maze of lies. REVIEW:

This book started out when Seth, the son of a Sicilian mafia don, is kidnapped, held prisoner and mutilated. When he’s rescued by the handsome Dominico, he instantly falls under the beautiful Sicilian’s spell. Seth leaves his boyfriend in the States and follows Dominico to meet Seth’s father, but on the way, things between the two become heated. When Seth discovers his father has named him to be his successor, Seth doesn’t know what to do. However, with Dominico by his side, he might just make it.

This book threw me for a loop. I was intrigued with how the story began. Then I was reading with a crinkled nose, but by the end I liked it again. My main objection was with Seth. I was interested in Seth up until the point when he came into contact with Dominico. At that point, Seth, the self-proclaimed top, became the biggest baby ever. He seemed like the furthest thing possible from what I’d imagine for a future mafia don. I was sure he was going to annoy the crap out of me for the entire book, but instead, his sexual encounters with Dominico just got better and better. Seth turned out to be the hottest reluctant virgin bottom I could imagine. No matter how much he protested, he couldn’t deny how much he loved it. Then he was all sulky about liking it afterword. In addition to finding it hot, I also found a bit of humor to it as well. This book was part 1 of 3, so I expected a cliffhanger. Even though the first part of the book was mostly sex and banter between the two, I was entertained by Dominco’s gradual breakdown of Seth which turned into something sweet by the end. I look forward to seeing how their relationship progresses in the next parts of this book.
