ABOUT THE AUTHOR

K. A. Merikan is the pen name for Kat and Agnes Merikan, a team of writers, who are taken for sisters with surprising regularity. Kat’s the mean sergeant and survival specialist of the duo, never hesitating to kick Agnes’s ass when she’s slacking off. Her memory works like an easy-access catalogue, which allows her to keep up with both book details and social media. Also works as the emergency GPS. Agnes is the Merikan nitpicker, usually found busy with formatting and research. Her attention tends to be scattered, and despite pushing thirty, she needs to apply makeup to buy alcohol. Self-proclaimed queen of the roads.

They love the weird and wonderful, stepping out of the box, and bending stereotypes both in life and books. When you pick up a Merikan book, there’s one thing you can be sure of – it will be full of surprises.

Inspiration never failed them so far, but they are ready to hunt down the exotic and unique. Kat and Agnes are pursuing their dream of becoming full fledged virtual nomads. Having gotten rid of their apartment and with most of their belongings put in storage, they are choosing their own path in life, ready to experience all the world has to offer while working on their books.

Book Review: Before the Succubus (Succubus #2) by Emma Jaye

SERIES:    Succubus #2

AUTHOR:     Emma Jaye

PUBLISHER:     Self Published

LENGTH:     194 Pages

BLURB:

Grades are all that seem to be important to Lucas’ parents, that and securing their own future through his hoped for, lucrative career. The double standards of the older generation, especially their ‘do what we say, not what we do’ philosophy, makes life difficult for the most sought after virgin in school, especially as his parents indulge themselves as often as possible.
Sneaking out to go to a party proves just how unimportant grades are, and how little his parents told him about the supernatural world. It seems like sex demons like himself are in high demand by vampire clans. But if the blood suckers expected him to roll over and play the submissive, they had another thing coming. As anyone who knows him would say, he’s a stubborn git. But it seems, as if that may be just what they want.

Suitable for 18+ readers only. Scenes of M/M and M/F incubus ‘force feeding.’

REVIEW:

Absolutely amazing book! This is the story of Lucas, a male sex demon who is abducted by a clan of vampires at age 18 in order to be their sex toy. The vampires especially love Lucas due to his fighting spirit. He’s not the type to bend over without a fight, which arouses the vampires even more. One thing I really loved about this book was that a Stockholm Syndrome relationship was not main focus of the story, rather the focus was on Lucas surviving his captivity and his struggle to prevail over his captors. With that said, the scene with the claiming of Lucas was extraordinary. Since Lucas is a sex demon he needs lots of sex to live, so every sexual encounter was extremely hot. The majority of the book is m/m but there ware some m/f scenes peppered in toward the end. Despite the sparse m/f scenes, I still highly recommend this book to anyone who loves dark m/m fantasy.

As a side note, Although this book can be read separately from the rest of the trilogy or can even be read first, I am a fan of both m/m and m/f so I’m glad I read book 1 first since I can read on to book 3 now without missing a beat.

RATING: Falling over backwards, going out of my mind for it! I will read again!

Book Review: The Prisoner (Broken #1) by Kol Anderson

TITLE: The Prisoner The Prisoner (Broken: Season One, #1)

SERIES: Broken #1

AUTHOR: Kol Anderson

PUBLISHER: Self Published

LENGTH: 80 Pages

BLURB:

Aaron Taylor is a rent-boy.
The Dream everyone wants to come true.

Vincent Greene is the client from hell.
The man who wants to make sure that dream ends up BROKEN.

Just when Aaron thinks his life is beginning to make sense, his handler sends him to a new client. Vincent Greene looks like he might just be Aaron’s best client yet, but what Aaron doesn’t know, is that under Vincent’s alluring facade, lurks a heart capable of extreme cruelty.

REVIEW:

This book starts out with a glimpse of Aaron’s life as a rent boy. He’s in love with a man who is promising to leave his lover in order to be with him. Though Aaron wants to believe it, he has to keep working. He hooks up with his next client, Vincent, and discovers too late that Vincent is bad news. Aaron is taken captive and his only hope for escape is the client who told him he loved him.

This book was enjoyable, but not entirely what I expected. So far there seems to be three viewpoints. One is Aaron’s viewpoint, one is the client who professed his love to Aaron, and the last is Vincent, the client responsible for kidnapping Aaron. Everything seems in place except for Vincent’s viewpoint. Even if Vincent ends up falling for Aaron, I can’t see myself liking him. He’s a kidnapper and after everything he’s done to Aaron, there’s no way I’m going to warm to the jerk. I’m interested in figuring out where things are going, but from the way the book began, I imagined it would be a lot longer and have more of a story arc. I’m guessing now that the story arc will be split up between the three books in the trilogy. As it is, the book ended in a cliffhanger of sorts with nothing concluded. I guess I’ll have more to say about this series once I read book #2.

RATING: Liked it 🙂

Book Review: Neko by P.L. Nunn

TITLE:    NekoNeko

AUTHOR:    PL Nunn

PUBLISHER:    Lulu

LENGTH:    221 Pages

BLURB:

A young Neko is captured and sold into slavery. In the hands of brutal woodsmen, who consider him more animal than human, he learns the true meaning of brutality, until he is rescued by a mysterious trapper with secrets of his own.

WARNINGS! This is not a pleasant tale. There is brutal and inventive NON-CON, Bestiality, Torture, and exaggerated scenes of humiliation, sadism and bondage and gratuitous violent M/M sex. NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. There will be resolution at the end, that was never addressed in the Comic book, but the Neko will go through hell before he gets it. You Have been warned.

REVIEW:

I can’t say I liked this as much as I liked Bloodraven. I’m glad that there was a happy ending for Neko, but for the first half of the book, I was wondering when things would start moving along in the story. It seemed like there was nothing but torture. It was very inventive torture, but it was never ending with no apparent escape or resolution in sight. Things got better later in the book, but not spectacular.  I rated Neko with four stars because I admire the author’s courage in writing something so taboo and out there. Of course, this book comes with strong advisories for non-con, violence and abuse. I recommend this novel to anyone who likes dark m/m erotica, and to anyone looking for where they draw the line. As for me, this book was crazy, but not enough that I felt I had to put it down. I’ll certainly be reading more of PL Nunn.

Spotlight: The Grand Ballast by J.A. Rock

TITLE:     The Grand Ballast The Grand Ballast

AUTHOR:     J.A. Rock

PUBLISHER:     Self-Published

LENGTH:     301 pages

BLURB:

In a future where live sex shows abound to keep a jaded population entertained, dancer Bode Martin falls for the brilliant and unstable Kilroy Ballast, who molds Bode into the star attraction of his erotic circus, the Grand Ballast. Drugged beyond any real feeling, Bode trades freedom and his once considerable pride for an illusion of tenderness—until he inadvertently rescues a young man from a rival show, and together they flee to an eccentric town in the west where love still means something. Valen’s not an easy man to know, and Bode shed his romantic notions under Kilroy’s brutal employ. Yet their growing bond becomes a strange and dangerous salvation as they attempt to overthrow the shadows of their pasts and wade together through a world of regret, uncertainty, beauty, and terror. But Kilroy won’t let Bode go so easily. Long ago, Bode was responsible for the loss of something Kilroy held dear, and he still owes Kilroy a debt. As the three men battle toward a tangled destiny, Bode must decide if his love for Valen is worth fighting for—or if he was and always will be a pawn in the story Kilroy Ballast will never stop telling. WARNING: Contains violence and noncon. Not a genre romance.

THOUGHTS:

Extremely dark with a lot of off page dark erotica and taboo elements. I would categorize this as m/m horror. Recommended to anyone who likes bittersweet m/m erotic romance.

Book Review: That’s What Brothers Do by Derikica Snake

TITLE:     That’s What Brothers DoTWBD

AUTHOR:     Derikica Snake

PUBLISHER:     Lulu

LENGTH:     151

BLURB:

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. In order to save his sister, he sold his body. To save his family, he sold his future and finally to save his love, he sold his soul.

REVIEW:

Extremely emotional. As a young boy of fourteen, Brant saves his sisters from prostitution by offering himself up in their place. Though he is used daily for years to pay off his father’s debt, Brant falls in love with his master and pimp, Wilber. At the end of his contract, Wilber offers another deal, but nothing is as it appears. Wilber had been his protector for all these years, but Brant finds that Wilber cannot protect him from everything. His sacrifice to his family has led him down a violent road of abuse and there’s no coming back. Though this book has a happy ending, I was dismayed by the lack of justice for those who hurt and used Brant.

RATING: Really liked it!
