About Embers

Small town—big problems. Jericho Crewe is back in Mosely, Montana, trying to deal with police corruption, interfering feds, his newly discovered family members, and, of course, Wade Granger.

He doesn’t really need a biker war on top of it all, but as the bodies start to pile up, it becomes pretty clear that’s what he’s got. Not only that, but Wade’s involved somehow, and as soon as Wade is a part of something, things that seemed clear become cloudy.

With the feds breathing down his neck, Jericho has to find his way through Wade’s maze of half truths and manipulations. It would all be so much easier if Jericho could think straight in the other man’s presence. So much easier if their passionate past could be forgotten, and if he could be sure he’s strong enough to resist the temptation of a passionate present.

About Kate Sherwood

Kate Sherwood started writing about the same time she got back on a horse after almost twenty years away from riding. She’d like to think she was too young for it to be a midlife crisis, but apparently she was ready for some changes!

Kate grew up near Toronto, Ontario (Canada) and went to school in Montreal, then Vancouver. But for the last decade or so she’s been a country girl. Sure, she misses some of the conveniences of the city, but living close to nature makes up for those lacks. She’s living in Ontario’s “cottage country”–other people save up their time and come to spend their vacations in her neighborhood, but she gets to live there all year round!

Since her first book was published in 2010, she’s kept herself busy with novels, novellas, and short stories in almost all the sub-genres of m/m romance. Contemporary, suspense, scifi or fantasy–the settings are just the backdrop for her characters to answer the important questions. How much can they share, and what do they need to keep? Can they bring themselves to trust someone, after being disappointed so many times? Are they brave enough to take a chance on love?

Kate’s books balance drama with humor, angst with optimism. They feature strong, damaged men who fight themselves harder than they fight anyone else. And, wherever possible, there are animals: horses, dogs, cats ferrets, squirrels… sometimes it’s easier to bond with a non-human, and most of Kate’s men need all the help they can get.

After five years of writing, Kate is still learning, still stretching herself, and still enjoying what she does. She’s looking forward to sharing a lot more stories in the future.

About Assassins: Nemesis

Being orphaned and almost kidnapped in the space of a week sent Blake Marks into hiding. For months, Blake tries to help the Calvers—a family of vigilante bodyguards—investigate the people behind the hit on Blake’s father, Isaac, but then the safe house is compromised. Just as hired thugs storm the house to grab Blake, Daelan Calver dives into the fight, getting them both out alive.

Hiding isn’t an option anymore, but hit squads, under-the-table deals, and international espionage? Blake has no idea how to handle any of it, not even with Daelan’s family there to play teachers. The one thing Blake knows for sure is that there are only two options: keep up with the Calvers or get out of their way.

But even with the Calvers’ help and the glimmer of a possible future with Daelan giving Blake hope, chances of survival keep shrinking. The man who ordered the hit on Isaac may be dead, but his partner is viciously cold-blooded, and her plans could change the course of history. Blake wants to finish what Isaac started, but it’s looking like someone is going to die before this is over. And that someone might be Blake.

ARe up in Flames! ~ Download your eBooks Now!!! (Site closes 31 Dec 16)

areIf you haven’t already heard, All Romance eBooks has just announced that they are going out of business on 31 December 2016 and giving readers a very small window of opportunity to download their books. That’s right, you only have three more days to download the books in your libraries.

If this seems unfair and like thievery, well you’re not alone in feeling so. Not everyone will have time to download all the books they purchased. Plus, ARe is only paying authors 10 cents on the dollar for the books they sold in the last four months.

Advice for Authors: Inactivate your books to avoid any additional sales ,but do not remove the files since this will remove the book from people’s libraries.

Advice for Everyone: Spread the word about ARe’s closure so that as many people as possible can gather their books off the site. If you are loosing money from purchases or advertising, do not go quietly. ARe was actively selling advertisement spots for 2017 up to five days before their announced closure, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a lawsuit. However, in the meantime U.S. residents can file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Immortal Watch is a spellbinding LGBT dark fantasy novel. If you like rich world-building, captivating storytelling, and edge-of-your-seat action, then you’ll love this story of love and horror from Olivia Helling.

Excerpt

Ilyas cocked his head. “Is something wrong?”
I breathed deep to avoid stuttering. “What would be wrong?”
“Just that I miss that smile of yours.” Ilyas smiled in turn.
For a heartbeat, I expected him to clasp my cheek, to draw me close, to envelop me in an embrace, to kiss me breathless, like he had when I had awoken to find myself his tawam rohi . Ilyas closed the display box and returned it to the drawer under the berth.
I exhaled. Of course not. Ilyas had promised to teach me all about kissing, and more, but he’d spoken in the heat of the moment when I’d awoken. Perhaps the fantasy of teaching me excited him more than the reality. My stomach sank.
After all, I wasn’t a eunuch. When Ilyas had still been the prince heir of Nuriya, his harem full of buxom ladies and eager lads, the male form hadn’t seemed to displease him. So long as they were eunuchs, not proper men, as Nuriyite decorum dictated. Nuriyites heaped rules upon everything from eating to sex. Lumians didn’t care, especially when sex wouldn’t provide more mouths to feed.
Or perhaps the fault lay in me, as a person.
Ilyas sank onto the berth with a big sigh. His features seemed drawn and stressed. I perched on the bed next to him, reaching to pet his hair. He groaned, and I froze.
I wanted more. I wanted to learn how to kiss. I wanted to learn how to wrap my thighs around his waist. I wanted—
“It will be fine, Jem,” he said.
I never used to be so selfish. He shouldered the fate of Lumi, and I couldn’t help him. All I did was lie wide awake at night, planning to demand more from him, planning to distract him.
“We can play a game of Go,” he said. “And I will wipe the deck with you this time.”
“Like the last eleven times?” I teased him.
“This one is my game.”

Meet the Author

Olivia Helling doesn’t believe in love at first sight… but maybe, just maybe, it blossoms along a few books. That is, after all, how she fell in love with her husband.

Olivia writes about the darkness and flaws from within, the struggle with self-confidence, self-perception and fear of failure, and fantasy and historical worlds that refuse to allow love between men. So be warned: happily ever after is not guaranteed.

The protagonist and love interest don’t always end up together by the end of one book. But when they finally come together, their love will be a thing of beauty.

Review: Blackmailed! (Settling the Score #2) by Josh Hunter #MM #Erotica

REVIEWED BY LARK

TITLE: Blackmailed!Blackmailed! (Settling the Score #2)

SERIES:  Settling the Score #2

AUTHOR:  Josh Hunter

PUBLISHER: Pyramid Press

LENGTH: 22 pages

BLURB: Obedience training for a bully…

Wade Johnson is the golden boy jock at our school, the star quarterback– and a total jerk. He started calling me a “queer” back in ninth grade, and he and his football goons have been hassling me every day since.

But now I’ve got something to keep Wade in line– a video that could destroy his social life and end his football playing days for good.

You’d think Wade would keep that in mind, and try to stay on my good side. Play nice. Keep the other jocks from messing with me. But Wade’s not that smart.

At school, he’s still the same homophobic bully he’s always been. So after school, he has to make it up to me.

It’s almost like that guy wants to be punished.

(First time gay BDSM erotic romance. All characters are 18 and over.)

Goodreads Link

REVIEW: The football players in this story are arrogant and entitled — and according to the school, they have every reason to be. That means that no matter who they choose to pick on, it’s up in the air as to whether or not anyone will actually stop them. Kev has what could be the perfect solution, if only his blackmailed football player would stand up for him. Unfortunately for him, it seems like Wade needs a few reminders as to just who’s in charge.

I really liked the first installment in this series, but I think Part 2: Blackmailed! was even better. Kev starts to get creative with just how he’s going to teach Wade a lesson, which makes it hotter and hotter, and I found myself rereading a few sections. For… research, of course. It was nice to see Wade’s reaction when he finally found something that reached his limits, though his reaction to just how Kev handles it when he balks was fantastic.

I don’t want to give away spoilers, because I enjoyed being surprised by just what happened. Suffice it to say that it gave a nice dose of kink and an idea of just where Kev might go next to keep his football player in line. Well-written and another enjoyable dose of Kev and Wade. I’m already ready to go straight into the next one. (Well. Straight. You know. ;-)) This might be short, but it packs a hell of a punch.

What’s worse than a bully? –A bully who’s the hottest jock in school.

Wade Johnson thinks that he can get away with anything, just because he’s the quarterback of our football team. He caught me staring at him during gym class Freshman year, and branded me a “queer”. He and his teammates have been making my life hell ever since.

But golden boy Wade just slipped up, and now he’s about to lose it all: his spot on the team, his hot cheerleader girlfriend, his college scholarship. And he’s begging for my help.

So what am I going to do with an arrogant jock who needs to be taught a lesson?

First time gay BDSM erotica.

REVIEW:

Most of us can think about someone who’s made our lives a living hell at some point or another — a bully in school, a particularly unforgiving manager at work, or just someone who lords over you in some way that you can’t get them back for. Hunter plays with the idea of just what happens when a boy who gets bullied at school takes things into his own hands and decides to fight back, and the result is a short — but extremely sexy — story. Though the storyline is a case of ‘what you see is what you get,’ I found myself surprised a few times by a few small twists and the author’s sense of humor.

Let’s just say that if you’re into the idea of a somewhat light revenge story along with a bit of a mindfuck and blackmail (if you can call any story with blackmail somewhat light, at least), this is a great story for you.

BLURB:

Headstrong. Telekinetic. Pariah.

When he meets a psychic whose powers of mind control are used to mug hapless innocents in order to provide for others, a dilemma arises. Should Quentin stop him, or help?

REVIEW:

Yet again, Amelia Faulkner has delivered a captivating journey from start to finish. Knight of Flames takes us back into the lives of Laurence and Quentin and introduces more characters from their past into the book — some for better, some for worse. Though many loose ends from the first book were neatly tidied up in Jack of Thorns, enough was left up in the air to draw me back to reading this particular book.

Not only that, but the antagonists of the book were decidedly memorable. Anything that might have been ‘done before’ is offered with a brand new, shiny coat of paint, offering a new perspective and an interesting journey from start to finish. We see Laurence and Quentin’s relationship develop, and it’s every bit as painfully slow as I imagine Laurence feels it is. It works, though; it occasionally gets frustrating, but that’s mostly on behalf of poor Laurence. Quentin’s dominance continues to work through the pages, along with Laurence’s submission and desire for more, and this starts to come to the forefront. I’m probably a little too excited about this dynamic.

But as what seems to be her practice, the second book delivers an epic ending that leaves me yearning — already — for the third book in the series.

New Release Review: February and December by JP Kenwood #MM #BDSM @JPKenwood

REVIEWED BY LARK

TITLE: February and DecemberFebruary and December: Dominus Calendar Series I

SERIES:  Dominus Calendar Series #1

AUTHOR:  JP Kenwood

PUBLISHER: JP Kenwood

LENGTH: 72 pages

Goodreads Link

BLURB:

As a lifelong passion continues to fade, another love deepens… two stand-alone m/m stories of love, lust, and friendship in ancient Rome.

February: Home from the first war against the kingdom of Dacia, Gaius Fabius ignores his obligations in Rome and returns to his secluded seaside villa in southern Italy. Under the pretense of a holiday trip, his best friend and secret lover, Lucius Petronius, surprises him with an unexpected visit. Later that evening, the lusty masters share the delights of Gaius’s blond pleasure slave, Nicomedes.

December: With whispers of an embezzlement scandal floating through the capital, Lucius Petronius and his beloved concubine, Bryaxis, celebrate the raucous winter solstice festival of the Saturnalia with Luc’s family. After a joy-filled evening of food, gifts, and stories, Lucius and Bryaxis reverse roles in the master chamber.

Warnings for explicit language, filthy loving, and daft shenanigans

REVIEW:

When JP Kenwood says that something is going to be filthy, she delivers — but she also delivers on the plot and the story that I’m coming to rely on when it comes to this particular author. I really enjoyed reading both of these stories, and I honestly can’t say which I enjoyed more. Lucius is probably my favorite character of the books (JP, darling, I resist the urge to give spoilers here), and it’s nice to see him in both stories.

We also get to see Nic, who I adore, and Bryaxis, while Lucius yet again defies the norm in favor of what he wants even as he does his duty.

These were beautifully written stories, with just enough of a balance between smut and story to keep me interested from start to finish. Readers shouldn’t fear the word ‘historical’ in association with the novella. There’s enough explanation to keep the reader understanding what’s going on without so much that the eyes glaze over with too much of it.

If you haven’t already read Dominus and Games of Rome, never fear; these stories take place before those books and can be read beforehand. These are reminiscent of Kate Aaron’s Free Men series — though admittedly grittier and darker. While the novellas are short and sweet, expect the books to be anything but.

RATING: I loved it!
