Smile, wiggle, lie, apologise, and run for the hills.

That’s the formula Chris has used all his life, but this time, he has something he’s never had to lose before, a family that cares. The problem is, his new brother’s very edible friend isn’t fooled by his act. If his secrets are revealed, they won’t want him and he has nowhere else to go.

Thanks to a suicide bomber, ex-military police sergeant Jase Rosewood is back in the English countryside. His plans for quiet recuperation are ruined by the effervescent, go-go dancing twink who has everyone wrapped around his little finger. Luckily for the gullible Matt, Jase can smell a liar a mile away, and Chris Bacon, if that’s even his name, stinks to high heaven. Assigned ‘Chris-sitting’ duty while Matt’s on honeymoon, Jase has a week to discover what is hidden beneath the bright camouflage. It’s a job, just like any other, so why does it feel so different?
Unfortunately, Jase isn’t the only one drawn to the boy who can’t stay still, but instead of wanting to reveal his true colours; they want to dull them forever.

Contains issues of physical abuse, but not between the central couple.

REVIEW:

This was an awesome book! In addition to being hot, it had me in tears on many occasions. The story begins with a glimpse of Jace’s background. After being wounded while serving in Afghanistan Jace returns home to attend his best friend’s wedding and finds a pleasant surprise. His best friend has a brother he never known about. The long lost brother, Chris is really the star of this book and I loved him so much. In addition to being homeless and a go go dancer at a gay bar, he has a case of ADHD that keeps him buzzing constantly to the point where sleep is impossible for him. Jace and Chris seem like they’ll be perfect for each other, but before they get together tragedy strikes.

I’ve read a few of Emma Jaye’s books and though her main genre is not usually M/M, the one mostly M/M book I read from her (Before the Succubus) was extremely hot and one of my all-time favorites . So, I wasn’t surprised to find spectacular erotica in this book, but what did surprise me were the dark themes to include human trafficking and mafia-like activity. I guess I was expecting something lighter, but there was definitely enough seedy and dark things happening in this book to keep me on the edge. In addition to the plot twists and turns, Chris drew me in from the beginning. He’s so broken inside by the cards life has dealt him, but at the same time he’s unbreakable. He’s bubbly and full of life which is in no way an act for him. I loved that he refuses to take medication and it pissed me off whenever other characters try to force or trick him into taking them. Though this book ends in a cliffhanger, I was in no way disappointed. The first three chapters of book two are included at the end which was the perfect tie over. I’m already half way through the second book, which explains a lot of the mystery surrounding Chris and his origins. Overall, this book was a win for me. I recommend Optical Illusion to anyone who loves dark m/m themes, and m/m erotic romance.

RATING: I really liked it!

Review: Rent Me (Rent Me #1) by Brina Brady #MM #BDSM @BrinaBrady

REVIEWED BY LARK

TITLE: Rent MeRent Me

SERIES:  Rent Me #1

AUTHOR:  Brina Brady

PUBLISHER: Self-Published

LENGTH: 436 pages

BLURB: Russian mobster spanks his rent boy. Ouch!

Rent Boy Brennen wants to belong to his lover Dmitri Dubrovsky. The Russian mobster controls every inch of his life in and out of bed. Brennen works for Dmitri’s escort service. His only desire is to please his lover. When Dmitri marries Nika, his lover moves him out of their home to an apartment in Beverly Hills and tells him nothing has changed.

What is Brennen going to do now?

Brennen does not understand his lover’s Russian culture not allowing homosexuality. Two different cultures and age difference clash.

Warning:

This is a Gay adult consensual story focused on themes of corporal discipline punishment and explicit sex with light elements of BDSM between adult men over the age of eighteen.

REVIEW: Rent Me was one of those books where I found myself getting into the characters as much as the plot — and sometimes, I wanted to bang their heads together. I absolutely love flawed characters; it’s a common theme in all of the books I adore. Brennen is a bit of a brat, and Dmitri is a bit oblivious, and Nika… Ah, I wanted to send her packing right back to Russia. The character I loved the most was Mischa, Dmitri’s brother; ever dutiful, he goes to extremes to make sure that he does right by Dmitri, but he’s good at what he does.

This book definitely isn’t for people who expect everything to be perfect; this relationship is anything but. However, that’s the way life is, and that’s the way things need to be in order for there to be growth. The author’s style may not be for everyone, but I for one enjoyed the read and can’t wait to pick up the next one.

RATING: I really liked it.

(New Edited Version)

(A collection of brand new and previously published Kol Anderson taboo shorts. Newly edited and never before seen stories.)

Don’t be Afraid of the Dark

Destiny is a strange thing. It can be fickle at times, and it can make you miss out on incredible connections that would set you on the journey of your lifetime. But the thing is, you’ll never know what you missed out on.

Sometimes Destiny takes pity on you and lets you meet the person you are supposed to, at just the right time. When Jensen first saw Liam, he lost his heart. Even if it took him a while to realize that. It’s okay, though. He had to grow and learn some more before he was the man Liam needed to save him from a life he was trapped in.

Supernatural forces collide to give Jensen the strength he needs to evolve into the man Liam waited his whole life for, and when their souls finally slam into each other, neither will be the same again.

Slave

It’s the worst feeling in the world, seeing him with someone else. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do, no limits I won’t go to get him back. But he won’t give me a chance. He won’t so much as look at me because he thinks I don’t belong to him anymore.
But that’s the whole thing.
I don’t belong anywhere.
Doesn’t matter where I go or who I am with I am always alone. There is something wrong with me, there has to be because no one else seems quite as miserable at being without a master.
But don’t we all owe our freedom to something?
People are slaves, aren’t they? To their jobs, to their partners, to their children, even to their lifestyles?
We all have those little kinks that we don’t tell anyone about, because we think we’re going to be judged for them, and because we’re slaves to society’s rules.
In a world where slavery is the norm I’m a slave to my needs.
To him.
And I need to get him back.

WARNINGS: HARDCORE BDSM, DUB-CON, NON-CON

Sin

Samuel “Sin” Taylor doesn’t know the difference between sex and intimacy, but maybe that’s not his fault. He grew up in a world where it was easier to get physical pleasure than to find love. But as a prostitute working the streets, Sin thinks he’s finally found his true calling. After all sex is the one thing he’s good at, right? But when Isaac enters his life through mere coincidence, Sin finds it a relief to be someone other than Sin.

How long can he keep up the charade?

WARNINGS: DUB-CON, NON-CON, ABUSE, VIOLENCE, DRUG USE

Fugue

Ever felt like the world thinks you’re crazy? Welcome to my world. I tried normal, but eventually the truth catches up to you. Thank God for Evan, he believes me. But no man is a saint, and eventually the stories of aliens and tentacles and kidnappings just become too much for anyone to believe anymore.

But I know what happened. I know what they did to me. The voices are calling me back now. They’re calling me to be with her, my daughter. And I can’t resist it anymore.

WARNINGS: ABUSE, SELF HARM, OFF PAGE NON-CON AND KIDNAPPING, VIOLENCE

REVIEW:

Kol starts out gently, his voice like a lover’s tempting whisper in the dark. His poetry sets the stage for what will be four very different stories within an extremely well-written anthology, and the tone carries on throughout. There’s desperation and hope, desolation and solace; there’s pain and relief, peace and terror. It all goes on through these pages. There are similarities in the four stories, but overall, they couldn’t be more different.

There’s an almost dreamlike quality to these stories, something that lures you in and refuses to let you go until the end. I found myself highlighting line after line of beautiful words that appealed to me and I wanted to remember.

In Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, we get a taste of the paranormal set against the backdrop of a world that seems grim for the characters involved. I want to know more about the characters and the world; my only complaint is that I’m not a huge fan of insta-love angles. But this line: “I don’t need you to feel sorry for me, that’s not what I want. I want you to love me” more than made up for it.

Slave follows the path of a broken-hearted sub whose master turned his back on him, and he tries to find solace anywhere and everywhere he can. There’s a surreal feeling to the entire peace, as though I’m in a dream that I can’t fully awake from. I’m not sure what I like better — the opening poem or the story itself. I loved Jesse, and everything he did felt real throughout the entire piece.

And then there was Sin. Sin isn’t for the faint of heart — and while I don’t consider myself particularly faint of heart, I think mine broke all the same. Those with issues involving incest and rape should steer clear of this one completely. There’s just enough hope to keep my heart from being completely crushed, but I noted at this point that the anthology is steadily darkening.

Finally, there’s Fugue. Fugue isn’t my type of story, but it’s an interesting one all the same. It follows a young man who believes he’s been tortured by aliens and his doctor, who’s desperate to help someone he feels has been failed by others. There are points where you can’t be sure if it’s a sci-fi short or a short on the effects of mental illness, but either way, the effect is profound.

Overall, the taboos mentioned in the tags and above are very much a present part of the stories, but they aren’t dwelled upon for too long. There’s just enough detail to let you know what’s going on, and then Anderson continues with the story: because this is all about the story, not the taboos.

Beautiful writing.

RATING: I loved it! (Even if it is going to haunt me for a while)

REVIEW:

This book was a lot of fun to read. It begins with a glimpse of Daniel’s life as a gypsy. He wants to escape his family and the only way he knows how is to save money working as a dancer. When circumstances force him to finally take the leap and run away, he has the good luck of encountering the sexy ginger dom, Ronan. Ronan owns a ranch and has work and a place to stay for Daniel, so they are a perfect match. As the story progresses and things get heated between the two, Daniel’s family problems catch up with him and put them both in danger.

This book was probably the sweetest and most romantic thing I’ve read from Brina Brady. Although there are BDSM scenes, Daniel is pretty good so he doesn’t earn much in the way of punishment. Ronan is also a very kind person and never would hurt his boy. Though I loved the romance between the two, what I liked the most was the setting and atmosphere. I love traveling, and this book really made me feel like I was there in the Irish countryside. I also loved Daniel’s character and his conflict with his family. Seeing how he interacted with his gypsy family and the crazy things they do made this book really come alive. I recommend The Runaway Gypsy Boy to anyone who likes M/M BDSM and m/m romance.

REVIEW:

Such a beautiful book! The story begins when Jeremy, an eighteen year old who’s living on the streets, is saved from a gang of ruffians intent on assaulting him. Jeremy’s savior, Noah, takes him in and protects him from a pimp who’s trying to turn him. Jeremy falls for Noah, but since Jeremy is twelve years younger than him, he doesn’t want to think of Jeremy in that way. Noah also has a past that he doesn’t want to share with Jeremy. Noah used to be a rent boy, but when he broke away, he decided to dedicate his life to helping rent boys escape the sex industry and start over. Noah want’s to shelter Jeremy from that existence, but Noah’s feelings for Jeremy as well as their cohabitation ends up putting Jeremy in danger.

This is the first time I’ve read Eden Winters, so I picked this book up out of curiosity, but I’m so glad that I did. The story-line was fantastic, and the characters were so honest and good. I loved Noah’s mission as well as the twist of his relationship with his former pimp. The sex scenes were extremely hot, but what I loved the most was the tragic beauty of Noah’s situation and the deep emotions involved.  He is truly a hero and I was in tears by the end of the book. If you love a book that can make you feel, this is definitely it. I recommend The Angel of 13th Street to anyone who loves m/m romance, drama, and YA.

His high school sweetheart and best friend for as long as he could remember, Amanda, by his side, and the love and support of his family. One night, one mistake changed everything. A flyer in the men’s room promises fame and fortune for anyone willing to go on camera and have sex, with another man. Money is money, and how hard could it be, right?

Lincoln Carter is honest with everyone in his life, including his family, about who he is and about his sexual preferences. Linc Larson, the openly bi-sexual gay porn star will do anything with anyone, which pretty much writes his ticket in a versatility charged industry. It’s not his sexuality that interferes with his personal life; it’s his inability to trust.

What Linc wants right now, more than anything, is the chance to do a scene with All Cocks newest acquisition, Kris Alen. Six foot two with Auburn hair, an exquisitely toned and inked up body, Kris Alen is sex personified. Linc doesn’t know if it’s the “I want the shiny new toy” aspect that calls to him, or the distant and wounded expression that haunts Kris’s eyes.

Linc figures out early on that Kris is only working the gay for pay angle that All Cocks brings to his bank account. Can a bi-sexual man with trust issues break down the barriers that Kris has built around himself and help Christopher overcome the painful past he is running from.

STORY PROMPT:

Dear Author,
I never expected the cops to bust in on my photoshoot! How was I supposed to know that the modeling agency was just a front for prostitution? I’m not a hooker! You’d think the two Vice cops would have better things to do than to keep shooting me glances. What is with all the smirks? It’s not my fault they won’t let me get dressed! What am I going to do now? Why do I get the feeling I’m not ready for what I read in their eyes

REVIEW:

This was a hot story about an undercover swat operation taking down a supposed modeling agency. The young and gorgeous, Travis, comes in for his photo shoot, not knowing anything about the agency and ends up in the middle of the swat operation. However, the photo shoot gets a bit steamy, which leads to more kinky and hot things to follow.

I loved this story. This has to be one of the few M/M/M books that I read which didn’t leave me wondering what was going on. When it comes to menage, I’m often confused about who’s doing what, but this was written so well that I never had to stop and try to figure out what was going in. Though the negotiations prior to sex seemed a bit much, it made for the perfect M/M/M BDSM scene. I would love to see more of these three together. I recommend this book to anyone who loves BDSM, menage, M/M detectives, and M/M Erotica.
