Anaxantis has his own troubles in the love department.

REVIEW:

Oh, my god, this book is so good. There are so many twists and turns. Although I can’t say much without spoilers, everything was orchestrated perfectly. I was crying at the end and I’m still so happy about how this trilogy concluded. As a side note, Anaxantis reminds me of Alexander the Great in many ways. Anaxanis is a leader who is young and cunning, but also flawed who knows how to make his troops love him. It will be interesting to see how his character progresses. I’ll certainly be reading on because I have to know what comes next. The wrap up was awesome, and the intrigue for the books to come are set. I recommend this series to anyone who loves M/M dark erotica and M/M fantasy with a Middle Ages feel to it. I’m truly in love with this series.

RATING: Absolutely crazy about it! I will read it again someday!

LENGTH: 202 Pages

BLURB:

There’s no leverage like seduction…until love takes a bite of his plans.

Deep, Book 1

As the Indiana Jones of historical erotica, there is no document existing—or just rumored to exist—Adin Tredeger can’t unearth. Why he would risk the biggest coup of his career to join the mile-high club is beyond him. But the disarming, dark-eyed man who somehow enters Adin’s locked airplane washroom has him completely nude and coming apart. All without a whimper of protest.

From that moment, Adin and Donte Fedelta engage in an international battle of wit and cunning. The prize—a priceless, 500-year-old journal with illustrations so erotic it could make the Marquis de Sade blush.

Yet Donte’s desire for the journal goes far beyond simple possession. The undead nobleman wrote it. And he’s not above using every trick in his otherworldly arsenal—including seduction—to get it back.

Chemistry draws them together even as fortune tugs them apart. But when a third party joins the chase, they must unite to fight an enemy with a deadly goal—to erase Donte from history.

This book is a rerelease of a previously published book, with substantial rewrites. This title was originally released as Notturno

Warning: This product contains one cocky college professor, one centuries-old vampire who is out to show him who’s at the top of the food chain, and red wine. Because it goes so well with humble pie.

REVIEW:

Adin is transporting a rare and valuable erotic book. When he boards an airplane he is accosted by a gorgeous man named Dante in the bathroom. Dante is very forward and after taking him in the small cramped space, bites him, and informs him of his intentions to take the book. Adin later learns that Dante is a vampire and also the author of the book. Despite the drama and danger Dante brings his way, Adin finds himself falling for his new vampire friend.

I enjoyed this book. I liked Adin’s character and I loved the idea of an immortal author coming to claim his property. Though I wasn’t particularly moved by the relationship between Adin and Dante, I was pleased with the emotional happy ending. This is the first book I’ve read by Z.A. Maxfield and I’ll certainly read more. I recommend this book to anyone who loves dark fantasy with vampires.

I received a copy of this book from Indigo Marketing in exchange for an honest review.

RATING: I liked it!

BLURB:

Jeremy has been isolated and adrift since the death of his brother. Most people just see him as the skinny emo kid who wears eyeliner and plays drums. No one gets him. Nobody tries. He thought the indie rock band Stygian would become his anchor, but—lost in their own problems—they’re far from the family he sought.

Still, hoping to get close to Kennedy, the band’s enigmatic guitarist, he follows Stygian to northern Louisiana for a summer retreat. They had planned to spend six weeks focusing on new music, but things go awry as soon as they arrive at the long-deserted Caroway mansion. Tempers flare, sexual tension boils over into frustration, and Jeremy turns away from the band to find a friend in his eerily beautiful landlord Hunter Caroway.

Kennedy suspects there’s something off about the creepy mansion and its mysterious owners, but Jeremy thinks he’s finally found somewhere he fits. It isn’t until Kennedy forces the Caroways’ secrets into the light that Jeremy realizes belonging sometimes comes with a price.

Review: Fidelity by Lia Black

TITLE:     FidelityFidelity

AUTHOR:     Lia Black

PUBLISHER:     Vinedark/ BlackHouse Press

LENGTH:     213 Pages

BLURB:

How far would a man go in the name of faith?

Fydelis was once worshiped as the Angel of Fidelity, but his love for Gareth, a mortal knight, caused him to fall from the heavens. He has now become the demonic aspect of Regret, and the unwilling plaything of the Sunderer, the darkest of all dark gods. His only hope is for death, but first, he must find someone to take his place as the Sunderer’s favorite toy.

Father Gareth De’Aubyn is a man tormented by his past and ready to sell his future to save the souls of his flock. Questioning the wisdom of war, he’s traded his Crusader’s armor for a cassock, and now ministers to the very people his army sent fleeing for their lives. When his church is attacked by unknown assassins, Gareth is mortally wounded, and with his dying breath, he calls out to the Creator for help.

But his god does not answer.

Instead, the demon, Fydelis, heeds his call, cajoling him to promise his soul to the god of the underworld for a chance to tap into the powers of dark magic, and set everything right.

A stranger to Gareth, the man who once swore to him his honor and his love, Fydelis is forced to make the dying priest an offer he can’t refuse: in return for sparing the lives of those under his care, Gareth must collect several very stubborn souls.

Together, they’ll begin a journey that will test everything they thought they knew about faith, love, and fidelity.

Content warnings: Graphic violence, fantasy-based theosophical overtones, dub-con, rape, heavy on the dark at times, snarky banter, hot and sweet m/m sex.

REVIEW:

As a knight, Gareth swore himself to his guardian angel, Fidelity, who he thought of as a spouse he would never be allowed to touch. However, when Gareth becomes disenchanted with the corruption in the crusades, he leaves the knighthood to become a priest.

The book starts when Gareth is dying following the massacre of his congregation. He calls to the heavens for help, but he receives help instead from the underworld. The demon, Fydelis, assists Gareth in exchange for his soul and the souls of twenty others, which he is tasked with collecting. When all is set to right in his church, Fydelis is still hanging around, and it becomes clear that he wants more than Gareth’s soul. Despite the demon’s temptation, Gareth sticks to his vows of chastity and remains true to his beloved angel, Fidelity. Along their journey to collect souls, Gareth continues to resist Fydelis, but grows fond of him and starts to care for him. The book ends in a twist, with love that is truly heartbreaking.

I don’t generally read books with theological undertones, but I took a chance on Fidelity due to the promise of dark things to come. Though the main characters are a priest and a demon, I never once felt like a line was crossed. However, I did a lot of crying throughout the book, and I can’t even write my review without getting choked up. Although Gareth and Fydelis seemed to be traveling down a path that was sure to lead to tragedy and heartbreak, I was very pleased with how the story ended.

RATING: Loved it!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lia Black tends to do everything the hard way; beginning with being born backwards into the world and now raising a teenage daughter by herself in conservative Upstate NY. Her career choices are no less extreme, including occupations of fine artist, computer geek, firefighter, and mortician’s assistant— just to name a few.

A fellow Author describes Black’s mind as “a glorious kaleidoscope of f*ckeduppery”; she loves the challenge of writing about people who probably have no business being together on the same planet, and who occasionally deal with questionable sanity/morality. It’s fun to glue broken things together and try to make something interesting and new.
–She especially loves broken boys who have lots of fascinating pieces.

Her characters often suffer through the worlds she creates for them, which leaves them a little cranky and sometimes less lovable than others in a romance genre. Yet Black swears that someday, “there will be comedy.”

BLURB:

Oliver Robertson has been assigned to go undercover in one of the shade clubs that litter the seedier parts of town. He has never engaged in the sort of edge play found in those places, preferring the BDSM in the more mainstream control clubs. However, to find the criminals behind a series of kidnappings, he must go in undercover as a shade sub. The mission becomes more complicated when his captain asks him to collect evidence against a lieutenant who might be a dirty cop.

The case quickly gets out of hand, and Ollie finds himself caught between wanting to do his job and not knowing who to trust. That confusion grows worse when a number of sexy and dominant men challenge his assumption that he prefers safe, contractually negotiated sex. It turns out he has more of a wild side than he expected, and given that he’s surrounded by dangerous men, and he can’t distinguish the good guys from the bad, that’s terrifying.

Book review: Cethe by Becca Abbott

TITLE:    Cethe Cethe

AUTHOR:     Becca Abbott

PUBLISHER:     SL Publishing Group

LENGTH:     528 Pages

BLURB:

Human-like, but not human, the nara ruled Tanyrin for centuries. The most feared among them were their naragi, sorcerers whose power was all but invincible. Not until the coming of Arami Lothlain, King of Tanyrin and Blessed of Loth, did the rein of the nara come to a bloody end. For four hundred years afterwards, the land was at peace.

Stefn Eldering was the youngest son of the Earl of Shia, the last in a long, proud line of demon hunters. He was also a sin-catcher, living proof of God’s displeasure, the shame of his existence atonement for the sins of his ancestors. Michael Arranz was the son of a duke and one of the despised h’naran, half-bloods cursed with the blood of the nara running through their veins. Of all the h’nara, his family alone was immune from the persecution of the powerful Church of Loth, protected by an ancient covenant.

In ordinary times, the paths of Michael and Stefn would never have crossed. Alas, times were no longer ordinary. The latest of the Lothlain kings was a weakling, unable to curb the ambitions of an increasingly powerful, corrupt clergy. Famine stalked the land. Fear of the h’nara, fanned by the Church, spread tentacles everywhere. Tanyrin teetered on the edge of chaos.

A loyal and devoted friend to Tanyrin’s crown prince, Michael could refuse Severyn Lothlain nothing, not even when Severyn asked the unspeakable of him. Determined to wrest the throne from his brother, Severyn intended nothing less than the resurrection of the ancient naragi. Michael, whose naran blood was the purest in Tanyrin, was the logical choice. But for Michael become what mankind feared most, he needed a conduit through which to take the powerful, dangerous magic of the Dark Stream. He needed a man who carried the ancient blood of the cethera.

He needed Stefn Eldering.

REVIEW:

Complex plot with a love affair so fragile, that around every turn, I was imagining it would break. This story follows the principle; you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. Though Michael and Stefn are natural enemies, Michael takes Stefn as his Cethe at the insistence of Michael’s best friend, Prince Severyn. Stefn has been conditioned all his life to hate h’naran as lowly and horrid spell casters. Whereas Michael knows Stefn’s family is notorious for their repression and extermination of his people. With Stefn’s initial use of hate slurs toward Michael, its doubtful they’ll ever come together. Since a cethe is supposed to be a slave; a body from which a naragi finds his power, this shouldn’t be a problem, but over time, Stefn becomes much more than that to Michael. I was surprised at the expanse of time that lapses in this book, but since the plot encompasses a slow takeover by Prince Severyn, it makes sense for a long period of time to pass in order for all the pieces to come together. Although the characters are involved in the political maneuvering for the coup, the focus is still on the impossible love affair between Michael and Stefn. In addition to the romance, the sex scenes in this book are extraordinary. If there’s ever a sequel, I’ll be more than happy to reread this book.

RATING: Crazy about it!
