Review: Puppy by R. Phoenix #MM #DarkErotica #Dystopia

TITLE: Puppy Puppy

AUTHOR:  R. Phoenix

PUBLISHER: Self-Published

LENGTH: 61 Pages

BLURB:

While other vampires glut themselves on the rewards of a world where humans are little more than food or entertainment, Liam has found himself bored with the new status quo. An attempt to alleviate his boredom brings him to Caleb, a man who’s willing to do what it takes to get out of the slums–even if it means becoming something less than human.

REVIEW:

This was a short but delicious story. Since I’ve read a few of the author’s books set in the same world, it was very easy for me to fall into this book. Puppy begins with the four hundred-year-old vampire, Liam, out on the prowl for something to fit his tastes. In his world, human’s have pretty much lost their appeal, but when he finds Caleb, he sees the potential in him. Though Caleb is bisexual and a top when it comes to men, he’s quite turned on by all the demeaning things Liam wants to do to him.

Though I’m not that into puppy play, the way R. Phoenix presents it in this book makes it very appealing. I like that how Caleb is taken without given a choice about it, but he’s not so reluctant because everything Liam does to him is so arousing. Overall, this story was great. I was a little bit surprised when it ended, so my only complaint is that I wanted to see more of them together. I recommend this book to anyone who loves M/M Dark Erotica and fantasy.

Son of Cleopatra and Julius Caesar, Sasha is the king of kings. He’s the pharaoh, and he’s supposed to be the most powerful man in Egypt, but he’s convinced there’s something wrong with him. Maybe he’s in heat or maybe he’s just cursed, but no pharaoh should have such an insatiable need to be mated by another man. Even worse, the man he desires has never shown an inkling of interest in him.

When the young pharaoh finds himself the sole ruler of Egypt and under siege by the Romans, he has to find a way to deal with the desires consuming him or all will be lost.

Review: Dom of Ages by K.C. Wells and Parker Williams #MM #BDSM @K_C_Wells

TITLE: Dom of Ages Dom of Ages (Collars and Cuffs, #7)

SERIES:  Collars and Cuffs #7

AUTHOR:  K.C. Wells & Parker Williams

PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press

LENGTH: 264 Pages

BLURB:

Eli may only be thirty, but he has had enough of pretend submissives. When he spies Jarod in a BDSM club, everything about the man screams submission. So what if Jarod is probably twenty years older than Eli. What does age matter, anyway? All he can see is what he’s always wanted—a sub who wants to serve.
Jarod spent twenty-four years with his Master before Fate took him. Four years on, Jarod is still lost, so when a young Dom takes charge, Jarod rolls with it and finds himself serving again. But he keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop. Because there’s going to come a point when Eli realizes he’s a laughing stock in the club. Who would want to be seen with a fifty-year-old sub?
After several missteps, Eli realizes that in order to find happiness, they will need friends who will understand. At a friend’s insistence, he visits Collars & Cuffs, where they are met with open arms. As they settle in to their new life, Eli begins to see things differently and he dares to think he can have it all. Until a phone call threatens to take it all away….

REVIEW:

Dom of Ages was an spectacular addition to the Collars and Cuffs series. It begins when Jarod, an older submissive, decides to try to get back into his life again by going to a new club. It has been years since his long time Dom died, but his grief was too great that he couldn’t imagine trying to find someone else. When he arrives at Collars and Cuffs, Eli spots him and sees him as a true submissive. They hit it off, but not without some bumps along the way.

I was a little bit skeptical when I first started reading this book, the reason being that I’m not too fond of extreme age gaps. However, having the dom as the young one and the submissive as the older man made the power dynamics a bit interesting. Though Jarod was older, he was truly a natural submissive and never once was put off by the age difference. When they are together it feels so natural, as if it couldn’t be any other way. Though this book could easily be read as a stand-alone, I’m glad to have read the books preceding it since there are plenty of drop-ins of characters from the other books. I recommend this book and series to anyone who loves sweet MM BDSM and MM Romance.

Review: Coach’s Boy (Settling the Score #4) by Josh Hunter #MM #BDSM

REVIEWED BY LARK

TITLE: Coach’s BoyThe Coach's Boy (Settling the Score #4)

SERIES: Settling the Score #4

AUTHOR: Josh Hunter

PUBLISHER: Pyramid Press

LENGTH: 60 pages

BLURB: Things are getting complicated for high school quarterback Wade Johnson.

Up until last week, everything in life had come easily for the golden boy athlete– football, girls, friends. So what if he was a little rough on Kevin, the gay guy in his class? Isn’t every jock supposed to pick on “queers”?

Now Wade is learning his lesson the hard way. Ever since Kevin got his hands on that video, Wade has been at Kevin’s mercy… and at his service. Wade has had to do things that he swore he never would. But the worst part is that he’s starting to like it. Wade’s gotten a taste for something that he can’t get from this cheerleader girlfriend.

But that may be the least of the straight stud’s problems. Because Kevin’s not the only one who’s found leverage on Wade.

And if Wade thought his coach was hard on him before, he has no idea what’s coming.

(First time BDSM gay erotic romance. All characters 18+)

REVIEW: I ran out of pages before I was ready for this installment of Settling the Score to end. If ever I thought this was just a take on the familiar revenge story, I was proven wrong in Coach’s Boy. Hunter keeps up with the relentless sexual exploitation of Wade, the star quarterback, but as the title and blurb indicate, he’s not only Kev’s toy anymore. Wade and Kev’s story takes a surprising but enjoyable turn as revenge turns into something a little more, but that’s not the only problem Wade has.

One of the many things I like about this series is the way the characters are written. They’re not the wooden characters you might expect from an erotic revenge series centered around blackmail — and if you go in expecting that, be prepared for a shock. There’s a definite story that’s progressing, and it’s very well-written.

Despite the way things are changing, Kev doesn’t let up on Wade — and now we have the coach, who insists on owning Wade’s ass. There’s a distinct dynamic between how Kev and the coach handle Wade, and I’m really enjoying seeing it progress.

And have I mentioned it’s hot? On to the next, because I can’t seem to put these series down.

Review: Endings and Beginnings by K.C. Wells and Parker Williams #MM #BDSM @K_C_Wells

TITLE: Endings and BeginningsEndings and Beginnings (Collars and Cuffs, #8)

SERIES:  Collars and Cuffs #8

AUTHOR:  K.C. Wells & Parker Williams

PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press

LENGTH: 387 Pages

BLURB:

Collars and Cuffs: Book Eight

In all his relationships, Darren Fielding never found the level of intimacy he witnessed between Thomas Williams and his sub, Peter, the day of Peter’s “rebirth.” Not only that, he never realized such intimacy was possible. For two years, Thomas’s business card has been burning a hole in his wallet. When Darren’s lover moves on, maybe it’s finally time to see where that card takes him.

Collars & Cuffs’ new barman, JJ Taylor, is really conflicted right now. He went to the club with a very specific purpose, already convinced of what he’d find there. Except it’s not what he expected at all. He certainly didn’t anticipate finding himself drawn to the new wannabe Dom. Nor could he have guessed the direction that attraction would lead him.

Old love, new love, vows, pain, rage, moving in, moving on…. The members of Collars & Cuffs face an event that touches some of them deeply, but it will only reinforce what they already know: together they are stronger, and some bonds cannot be broken.

Goodreads

REVIEW:

Endings and Beginnings starts off with an introduction to Darren and how he ends up in Collars and Cuffs as well as an introduction to JJ’s situation. At first JJ wasn’t very likeable. He’s full of bitterness and misdirected anger, but once he and Darren come together, it’s so easy to overlook JJ’s personality flaws. Darren adores him no matter who he is. As the story progresses, JJ’s past comes back to haunt him, which really made me sympathize for him. At the same time, some of the other characters are wrapping up unfinished business.

In short there are plenty of surprises in this book, and considering it is book eight in a series it wasn’t difficult in the least to read. It was great seeing all the characters pop in and out, and there are plenty of tie-ins to previous books that make things come together smoothly. Though it was nice visiting the previous characters, I was drawn mostly to the love affair between Darren and JJ as well as the drama related to JJ’s identity. I also loved the ending; especially the hint that there may be another tie in series to come. Overall, this book was a great way to end Collars and Cuffs.

Review: The Cage (Settling the Score #3) by Josh Hunter #MM #DarkErotica

REVIEWED BY LARK

TITLE: The CageThe Cage (Settling the Score #3)

SERIES: Settling the Score #3

AUTHOR: Josh Hunter

PUBLISHER: Josh Hunter

LENGTH: 25 pages

BLURB: A “straight” stud is starting to slip…

Wade still struts around school in his varsity jacket like he’s the king of the world. Laughing it up with his jock buddies. Making out with his cheerleader girlfriend. Making fun of the “queers”. But behind the eyes he’s starting to get desperate.

Wade hasn’t had sex in a week. Any kind of sex. Not since I put his manhood under lock and key. I wonder how much longer he can take it Another day? Two? Pretty soon, the frustration will be too much, and he’ll do anything just to get some release.

There’s only one problem:

It turns out that I’m not the only one who has Wade in training. And somebody wants to break him first.

(First time gay BDSM erotic romance. All characters are 18 and over.)

Goodreads

REVIEW: Okay, so I couldn’t wait between reading Part 2 and Part 3. I admit I took enough time to write my review of the second installment and then dove right into the third to find out what happened to poor Wade. (Good luck not doing the same.) Kev is proving to be more of a hardass than might be expected, but then, after getting the chance to own the star quarterback who’s tormented him for so long… Well, let’s just say the fact that he doesn’t waste his chance to get back at one of his tormentors isn’t a surprise.

What was surprising was the addition of a third party into Wade’s predicament — but it was a very enjoyable surprise. I’d almost feel bad for the guy, but there’s enough of a twist there to where I can’t help but enjoy his plight even more. Again, I don’t want to give spoilers, but Kev has Wade right where he wants him, and he doesn’t let up. (Go Kev!) Tiny spoiler: the slightest mention of collars and calling someone submissive ‘boy’ with references to muttlike treatment might have me a little too interested. I admit I have a weakness for the training Kev starts to put Wade through, and I’m hoping for more of the same.

As I’ve said before, the books might be short, but they are well-written, complete stories with interesting characters. This isn’t just a typical revenge story; this is one where the characters clearly take on a life of their own and leave me wanting more. Hot and compelling as these are, I don’t think I could put down the series if I tried.

New Release Review: Wes’ Denial by Joseph Lance Tonlet #MM #DarkErotica @JosephLTonlet

TITLE: Wes’ DenialWes' Denial (Tease and Denial, #2)

SERIES:  Tease and Denial #2

AUTHOR:  Joseph Lance Tonlet

PUBLISHER: Self Published

LENGTH: 398 Pages

BLURB:

Wes has spent his life looking for that one special guy who will understand and love him—all of him. From his tender vanilla side, to his darker debauched side.

Throughout high school, his successful career in the Marines, and as a BDSM Dom, he’s remained confident his partner is out there waiting to be found.

However, several events shake his normally unflappable self–assurance.

And, even after he finds Grif, will his past catch up with him and possibly drive his soul mate away?

Goodreads Link

REVIEW:

Hot, haunting, and heartbreaking. Wes’ Denial starts out with Grif and Wes on the rocks, but Wes refuses to give in because he knows Grif is worth fighting for. Then, through a series of flash backs we get a glimpse into Wes’ troubled introduction into the world of BDSM. He first comes to understand some of his dark desires as a teen and then while in Marine Corp boot camp. Though he doesn’t judge himself for it at first, he fears what is inside him and what he’s capable of doing.

Some of these scenes were a bit difficult to read. Though I loved Wes in Grif’s Toy, I did sense a glimpse of something dark and scary in him. There was one point that I almost wondered if Grif was in the hands of a monster. As it turns out, Wes is not so scary, but he definitely has some dark and painful experiences. Seeing this side of Wes made me wonder how the heck he could be truly intimate with Grif while hiding such secrets. At the same time, I was drawn to the erotic scenes in this book. Aside from the steaming hot scenes with Wes and Grif in chocolate, I was fascinated by some of Wes’ past hook ups. For example: Wes’ straight friend in high school who fantasized about a woman making him submit to men was just awesome. Plus, there was also a scene with Wes’ dom trainer, Thomas, that was so hot that it kept playing over and over in my mind. Then, by the end of the book, I was in tears. It was quit unexpected, but I couldn’t ask for a more perfect ending. Overall; amazing, spectacular, and I want more! I recommend this book to anyone who loves M/M dark erotica and M/M romance.

What’s worse than a bully? –A bully who’s the hottest jock in school.

Wade Johnson thinks that he can get away with anything, just because he’s the quarterback of our football team. He caught me staring at him during gym class Freshman year, and branded me a “queer”. He and his teammates have been making my life hell ever since.

But golden boy Wade just slipped up, and now he’s about to lose it all: his spot on the team, his hot cheerleader girlfriend, his college scholarship. And he’s begging for my help.

So what am I going to do with an arrogant jock who needs to be taught a lesson?

First time gay BDSM erotica.

REVIEW:

Most of us can think about someone who’s made our lives a living hell at some point or another — a bully in school, a particularly unforgiving manager at work, or just someone who lords over you in some way that you can’t get them back for. Hunter plays with the idea of just what happens when a boy who gets bullied at school takes things into his own hands and decides to fight back, and the result is a short — but extremely sexy — story. Though the storyline is a case of ‘what you see is what you get,’ I found myself surprised a few times by a few small twists and the author’s sense of humor.

Let’s just say that if you’re into the idea of a somewhat light revenge story along with a bit of a mindfuck and blackmail (if you can call any story with blackmail somewhat light, at least), this is a great story for you.

Review: Rent Me (Rent Me #1) by Brina Brady #MM #BDSM @BrinaBrady

REVIEWED BY LARK

TITLE: Rent MeRent Me

SERIES:  Rent Me #1

AUTHOR:  Brina Brady

PUBLISHER: Self-Published

LENGTH: 436 pages

BLURB: Russian mobster spanks his rent boy. Ouch!

Rent Boy Brennen wants to belong to his lover Dmitri Dubrovsky. The Russian mobster controls every inch of his life in and out of bed. Brennen works for Dmitri’s escort service. His only desire is to please his lover. When Dmitri marries Nika, his lover moves him out of their home to an apartment in Beverly Hills and tells him nothing has changed.

What is Brennen going to do now?

Brennen does not understand his lover’s Russian culture not allowing homosexuality. Two different cultures and age difference clash.

Warning:

This is a Gay adult consensual story focused on themes of corporal discipline punishment and explicit sex with light elements of BDSM between adult men over the age of eighteen.

REVIEW: Rent Me was one of those books where I found myself getting into the characters as much as the plot — and sometimes, I wanted to bang their heads together. I absolutely love flawed characters; it’s a common theme in all of the books I adore. Brennen is a bit of a brat, and Dmitri is a bit oblivious, and Nika… Ah, I wanted to send her packing right back to Russia. The character I loved the most was Mischa, Dmitri’s brother; ever dutiful, he goes to extremes to make sure that he does right by Dmitri, but he’s good at what he does.

This book definitely isn’t for people who expect everything to be perfect; this relationship is anything but. However, that’s the way life is, and that’s the way things need to be in order for there to be growth. The author’s style may not be for everyone, but I for one enjoyed the read and can’t wait to pick up the next one.

RATING: I really liked it.

I’m honored to welcome K.C. Wells & Parker Williams on the blog to promote their new release, Endings and Beginnings. Check out the character interview with Peter plus an awesome giveaway.

Character Interview Questions

  1. What is the best gift you ever gave?

My submission to Master Thomas. After what Curtis Rogers did to me, I never thought I’d be whole again. Never be able to explore the side of me that cried out to be shown. But my Master proved to be kind, patient, and I learned that I could trust again. It took me a while to be able to give him what I wanted to. To kneel at his feet, and simply submit. But once I did, I found my true self.

  1. What was your favorite subject in school?

Though it came after I left school, I found that I loved the training I got when I learned to give massages. There is something fulfilling to know that the person you’re dealing with is going to melt under your touch. When I first gave Master Thomas a massage, his reactions touched all my buttons. I don’t know that I ever had been so happy to give someone pleasure.

  1. What is the last thing you tell your partner before bed?

How much I love him. How much he means to me. I know he’s aware of it, but if I don’t say it…look, I talked with Jarod about my relationship with Master Thomas. Unless something out of the ordinary happens, I know he will likely go before I do. So every night I tell him what he means to me, so if something happens while we sleep, he will always know.

I realize it might sound foolish, but it’s important to me. He has to know how much he’s made a difference in my life, and he lets me know that I mean the same to him.

  1. What is your motto?

Don’t look back at past mistakes. It never does any good, and gives other people power over you. For a long time, Curtis Rogers had that power. Even when he went to prison. I needed my Master and Dr. Herne to pull me out of the dark tunnel I found myself in.

  1. What is your biggest strength?

Believe it or not, it’s my Master. He exudes strength, and I absorb it from him. He doesn’t let me dwell on things. He’s always there, ready to help me if I slip a little. I don’t do it so much anymore, and sometimes I worry that there will be something big coming up that will shake the foundation I’ve begun to build. But I know that my Master will be there, and he’ll do what is right to help me make it through any trouble that comes my way.

“Honey, I’m home.”

Alex laughed and came out of the kitchen to greet his husband. “We’ve talked about this, right? You do not walk into this apartment and talk to me like I’m the little wife.”

Leo kissed him soundly on the cheek. “Aw, but you’d look great in an apron, holding a glass of beer out for your weary, hard-working hubby.” He smirked. “And besides, no one in their right mind would call you little.”

Alex quirked his eyebrows. “One, you don’t drink beer, which is why there’s a glass of chilled chardonnay on the living room table, waiting for you. Two, excuse me—weary? Hard-working? You’ve been standing around in leather chaps and a harness, watching while guys do all manner of things to each other, which probably included a lot of fucking, because, hey, it’s Saturday night, right?”

Leo sighed happily. “What can I say? I love my job.”
